How To: Flush the Crap from Your Brand New Computer with PC DeCrapifier

Overloaded Desktop

Many of us here at BURNEDiN build our own desktop computers (it's what separates us from the chumps), but we mostly just scoot over to our favorite store or website to buy a laptop. And we put up with all of the crapware and trial versions of software we never, ever use. So why let your brand new laptop run sluggishly with stuff you could care less about when you can make it a lean, mean, mobile computing machine? One way is to go through the Add/Remove Programs, but this takes forever to uninstall all of the stuff. Hardcore power users have been using PC-Decrapifier for a few years to clear the junk off semi-automatically. Now, we'll show you just how essential this free tool is.

1. Prepare The Dumpster

Welcome to PC Decrapifier

PC Decrapifier is a semi-automatic software inventory control more than anything else. The best feature is it does the thankless task of searching all preinstalled software for you. Download it and run the installation. If this is a truly brand-new, out-of-the-box computer, just ensure that checkbox is checked.

2. Scan for Garbage

Step 2 - Restore Point

Once PC Decrapifier is installed, run the program. It will ask to create a Windows Restore Point - if you so desire. Once the optional Restore Point is created, it will scan your machine for any software installed. Easy cheesy, right?

3. Take out the Trash

Select Items

After the scan, a list of software is presented for your review. You may select any or all of the list. ***WARNING*** Certain items in the list may be essential (such as graphic drivers or touchpad drivers). So, select with care, not reckless abandon.

Remove Items

Once the items you want removed are selected, you can click to remove them all. You will be presented with dialog boxes asking if you want to remove each software. Click through each one to uninstall them.

4. Finish Clean-Up

Complete

After everything is uninstalled, you will be rewarded with this box. Make sure you restart the computer to let any lingering post-uninstall routines complete the purge.

Also note that if a trial edition of a commercial Antivirus program was in the list of programs to remove, you will need to install some protection. You can also use PC Decrapifier on an established computer to remove a host of programs never used.
