Tech Tip of the Day: How to Disable User Account Control in Vista and Windows 7

For most of us, the User Account Control (UAC) in Vista and Windows 7 is the equivalent of the annoying "Are we there yet?" during family vacations. Fortunately, the UAC can be disabled, while silencing the kids with a firm backhand isn't quite as easy (legally). And don't do that anyway, you could hurt your hand.

Are you sick of these popups? Want to disable the UAC? Here's what you do:

Quickly Disable the User Account Control (UAC)
 Windows Vista
 Windows 7

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Help and Support
  3. Type "UAC" in to the search box and hit enter
  4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off
  5. Click Click to open User Accounts
  6. Click Turn User Account Control on or off
  7. UNcheck the box to Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
  8. Click the OK button
  9. Reboot
  1. Click Start
  2. Click Help and Support
  3. Type "UAC" in to the search box and hit enter
  4. Click Turn User Account Control on or off
  5. Click Click to open User Account Control Settings
  6. Drag the bar to the bottom (Never Notify)
  7. Click the OK button
  8. Reboot

With or without the UAC, click-happy individuals are still going to open those questionable files and click on those mysterious links. They'll end up with more viruses than an unprotected porn star. When that happens, we'll be here to help lead them back to cleanliness. However, they can apply the ointment themselves.
