"One savvy Reddit user seems to think so! Also: hoards of other disgruntled and/or confused customers, according to Google. The scam? Charter's convincing customers that their perfectly good router hardware—including the Linksys WRT54G—just doesn't work with the ISP.
As reported by ZachSka87: I use a LinkSys router. I've had it set up and working perfectly for over a year. Well, the past few months, we've had several disconnects from Charter. We're paying for 10mbps service, but for the past week straight it would not go above 2mbps, and that's if it worked at all. We called Charter, and they had us plug the modem directly into the machine and Voila! over 20mbps speeds!" source
"Nokia was rumored to be building it, but according to the WSJ Verizon Wireless' first 4G handset will debut mid-2011, running on the LTE network that's launching end of this year after Boston and Seattle guinea pigged the service.
According to the WSJ, Verizon Wireless' first LTE phones will use dual chipsets so they'll still be compatible with the current CDMA network. This will come months, even a year, after Sprint's first WiMax phone, which Palm is supposedly building." source
"Google must not be allowed to dominate and block cash from flowing more widely through the mobile telecoms system or else the network operators will not be able to invest to cope with the growing demand for data traffic, Vodafone said on Tuesday.
Vittorio Colao, chief executive of the world's largest cellphone networks operator, told the Mobile World Congress trade fair in Barcelona that instead new business models needed to be created to cope with the demand for data services." source
"Hey Netgear, did you have a surprise for us at CES? Say the world's first 4x4 MIMO 802.11n WiFi HD Video bridge? Sorry, but Quantenna just revealed your partnership that promises to deliver Full HD video quality streams across distances of "100 feet or more, regardless of signal interferences and dead zones." According to the Quantenna press release, anyway. That's up to 5x the distance of existing wireless HD solutions thanks to Quantenna's 4x4 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology, adaptive transmit digital beamforming, and wireless channel monitoring and optimizing; a lot of scary sounding jargon that should allow the device to carry up to four streams of full HD video pretty much anywhere in the house with claimed "near-perfect transmission performance." While we don't have pics yet you can expect Netgear's baby to be sporting 4 antennas (like the Quantenna reference design pictured) when it's announced proper in the next few days." Source
"The funds, to be released over the next 75 days, are among $7.2 billion set aside in President Barack Obama's $787 billion economic recovery package to bring broadband access to unserved or underserved U.S. communities.
Vice President Joe Biden, at an event in Dawsonville, Georgia, announced details of an initial $183 million investment in broadband projects in 17 states.
"New broadband access means more capacity and better reliability in rural areas and underserved urban communities around the country," Biden said in a statement.
Nearly two-thirds of Americans have adopted broadband at home, while one-third have access but have not adopted it, and 4 percent say they have no access where they live, according to the Federal Communications Commission." Source
"Egads, you see that? 42.78Mbps over a wireless data card! Not just any card, mind you, it's presumably the new Samsung 4G card running on TeliaSonera in Sweden and Norway, the world's first commercial LTE network launched on Monday. TeliaSonera bundles the 4G service with 30GB of data for just 599kr (85$) per month. That 5.3Mbps upload and 37ms ping aren't too shabby either. Not exactly the theoretical 100Mbps down / 50Mbps up provided by the LTE spec, but not AT&T either." Source
