Gap Caves in to Pressure from Facebook, Twitter

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

With over 600 million members combined, Facebook and Twitter could really encourage meaningful change, should everyone band together for the greater good. And many of them did just that..kind of.

A whole bunch of fans from both sites joined forces, but we can't really say it was for a greater good. Instead, they used their strength in numbers to complain about Gap's new logo. Hey, hey, hey, we see you *facepalming* and you're a little early. Want to hear the best part? The social networking crybabies got their way.

"Since we rolled out an updated version of our logo last week on our website, we've seen an outpouring of comments from customers and the online community in support of the iconic blue box logo," said Marka Hansen, President of Gap Brand North America.

"Ultimately, we've learned just how much energy there is around our brand. All roads were leading us back to the blue box, so we've made the decision not to use the new logo on gap.com any further," Hansen said.

Um, congratulations everyone?

Twitter: We're Bound for....One BILLION Users!

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

Twitter co-founder Evan Williams went on record saying he believes his microblogging service will make it the one billion users mark, the same goal Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg laid out for his social networking site. Can we say geek d*ck waving contest?

To be fair, Twitter isn't exactly trying to race Facebook to one billion users, nor is it necessarily going after the same users. In fact, Williams said point blank it wouldn't be the same billion peeps as Facebook. Why? According to Williams, the two social services are fundamentally different, which is true, although users are apt to post that they just had a bowel movement on either one.

Twitter Gets Hacked Sending Unsuspecting Tweeters to Japanese Porn Sites

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

twitter-attackedTwitter was under fire earlier today as a security flaw sent many users to Japanese porn sites. Some people at work complained about the links not having NSFW warnings but overall (we suspect) not too many tweeters complained about the links.  They did share the apparent hijacking with other tweeters however and Twitter kicked in to gear to fix the security flaw.

"It was pretty bad -- we saw it hitting thousands of people a minute," said Graham Cluley, a Sophos technology consultant who was not involved in fixing Tuesday's problem. "The worst we saw was it was redirecting some users to a Japanese porn site."

Overall, Twitter doesn't believe any personal information was compromised so to that we say, "No harm, no foul."

NFL Gametime Ban on Twitter Enforced with $25k Fine for Ochocinco

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

tweetThe NFL has been ready put down the banhammer on tweeting during games. And, for some, rules are there to be broken. Who else would we expect to be willing to pay a ridiculous fine, in order to get more nationwide publicity? That's right, Chad (Johnson) Ochocinco. Not even a "Hi Mom!" or shout out to anyone in particular, he just complained about being hit so much. What a cry baby. Then in his apology he complains about how the $25k fine is worth two of his car payments. We're sure all of his Twitter followers are empathetic to that.

On a related note, an NFL player get slapped by his mom for not saying hi to her before tweeting to all his groupies.

Secret Steve Ballmer Twitter Account? Some Think So.

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

twitter"Steve Ballmer recently revealed that he has a secret Twitter account which he uses to "blast out the scores of his kid's high school basketball games." We did a few quick searches and we think we may have found it.

Based on a few old stories we know that Steve's son, Sam, attends Lakeside School in Seattle, so we searched for Twitter accounts announcing scores for that school's basketball games." source

Our Take: And what proud parent wouldn't announce results of his kids basketball games? We sure don't hold back.

Conan O'Brien Twitter

"Conan O'Brien is keeping himself busy by interviewing animals.

That's the word from the former 'Tonight Show' host via his new Twitter account.

'Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me,' O'Brien said in his first tweet. His account bio reads: 'I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account.'" source

Our Take: Say what you want about the whole Tonight Show time slot fiasco, but if there's a better opening post for Twitter, we don't know it. BTW, you can follow Conan here.

Nielsen: Twitter and Facebook Use up 82 Percent

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

Facebook Logo

"We're spending a lot more time tweeting and Facebooking, says Nielsen.

The average social-networking user around the world spent more than five and a half hours on sites like Facebook and Twitter in December, according to data released Monday by Nielsen. That marked an 82 percent jump from December 2008 when Tweeters and Facebookers surfed their favorite sites for around three hours the entire month." source

Our Take: What a waste of time! Back in our day, we spent our leisure playing Pong and Pac-Man on an Atari. Now THAT was a quality time.

Nvidia Names First Two Fermi Cards on Twitter

Submitted by: The BURNED iN Crew

Nvidia Logo

"Graphics manufacturer NVIDIA released via their Twitter feed that the desktop models of their upcoming Fermi DirectX-11 capable graphics card will be named the GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480. This comes as a slight surprise as the GTX 300-series was expected to be next, and NVIDIA has already released some mobile GTX 300-series cards." source

Our Take: Still no word on how much Fermi will cost or when it will ship, but hey, there's only so much info you can cram into a 140-word tweet.
