Windows Phone 7, while novel, was originally missing some of the most basic features that its competitors had. However, Microsoft was intent on fixing the feature gap that Windows Phone 7 shipped with, which should make the platform more compelling than ever. However, an early preperator update last month backfired, bricking some Windows Phone 7 devices. However, Microsoft seems to be back on track, as not only did they release a fixed initial update, they are now beginning to push a new update that adds, among other things, copy-paste. ...read more
For a long time now, Microsoft has been trying to gain a foothold in the mobile phone/tablet market. Their early attempts, such as Windows CE, were weak, though eventually they improved all the way up to Windows Mobile 6.5. Even so, few considered Windows Mobile a "good" OS, and it was, as the rest of Microsoft's attempts, unsuccessful at grabbing a significant portion of the smartphone market. Now, Microsoft has attacked the sector more aggressively with the release of their Windows Phone 7 platform. Has the new platform helped Microsoft's cause? According to market research firm comScore, the data says no. ...read more
Nokia let many people down (especially Intel) when it announced that it would be abandoning its open Symbian and meeGo OS platforms for Microsoft's closed Windows Phone 7 platform, most notably Intel, who has promised to continue supporting the meeGo standard, even without Nokia's blessing. Whilst many thought that a move to Android was imminent, Nokia surpised many with their move to WP7. Now it is being reported that Nokia will be recieving roughly $1 Billion USD as a result of a 5-year agreement with Microsoft. ...read more
As we reported earlier, Microsoft pushed out their first Windows Phone 7 update a couple weeks ago, but to the dismay of Samsung Omnia 7 owners (and probably Microsoft as well), the update bricked many Samsung Omnia 7 phones. The update process would freeze at stage 6 of 10, and instruct the user to connect the phone to a PC. Neither hard resetting the phone or restoring from a PC fixed the issue. Microsoft pulled the update for the time being to examine what happened, and now they are rolling out the fixed update to affected phones. ...read more
On Monday Microsoft let loose a small Windows Phone 7 update that was
meant to pave the way for future larger, feature-adding updates. Whilst
the recent update didn't do anything that users noticed, it did make
several changes to the update system that were presumably important for the new
features Microsoft wants to release this year. Unfortunately, some owners of
the Samsung Omnia 7 who updated were greeted with a completely bricked
phone. Ouch. ...read more
Yesterday Microsoft announced the release dates of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 in a Windows Team Blog Post. Did you know that the chief feature of Windows 7 Ultimate is that it costs more than lesser versions? Ok, maybe not officially, but Windows 7 Ultimate's price has us scratching our heads. In fact, take it straight from the horse's mouth.

Great, you can switch Windows to Chinese on the fly! Of course, we all love that feature.
And what about BitLocker? Sounds like it can be a nice feature. That is, until you realize that the free software TrueCrypt does a much better job of encryption than BitLocker does. So what did you pay all that money for? Heck if we know.
For most of us, the User Account Control (UAC) in Vista and Windows 7 is the equivalent of the annoying "Are we there yet?" during family vacations. Fortunately, the UAC can be disabled, while silencing the kids with a firm backhand isn't quite as easy (legally). And don't do that anyway, you could hurt your hand.

Are you sick of these popups? Want to disable the UAC? Here's what you do: READ MORE
Microsoft is telling anyone who will listen that it has sold some 150,000 license of Windows 7 to date, thus reiterating the claim that Redmond's latest and greatest is the fastest selling OS in the history of the known galaxy.
While bragging about how well the software giant's OS has been flying off of store shelves, Microsoft also used the opportunity to announce the beta versions of its new Messenger, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, and Sync, all of which will be available on June 24. Source
After checking out Engadget's video review of the Joojoo tablet we were left unimpressed. It's easy to see Fushion Garage still has a good amount of work to do to catch up to Apple's iPad. When someone can at least get through a short video review without multiple glitches, then it will be a tablet to consider. But we simply wouldn't recommend dropping five Bennys (yeah, $500!) on a glitchy tablet.
The one thing they got going for them is that someone managed to install Windows 7 and get the touch screen working. Maybe if Fushion Garage gets around to beefing up the Joojoo a little bit, while allowing for a factory install of Windows, it will be a better option for the average consumer. If they pull that off, we'll be sure to get one in for review.
