MSI is a well-known multi-product PC hardware company. Perhaps
best-known for their well-priced, quality motherboards, MSI also
produces a range of other products, including vdeo cards from both ATi
and Nvidia, Infotainment systems, peripherals, servers, desktops,
tablets, and laptops. Today they have made additions to the laptop side,
and while they very quickly put Sandy Bridge in their high-end gaming
laptops, the new platform is trickling down to their more practical
laptops- in this instance, MSI's multimedia line is getting the Sandy
Bridge makeover.
At the high end of the lineup is MSI's CX640 laptop. With a classy brushed aluminum all-matte finish, the laptop is a looker, and ships with a Sandy Bridge processor, up to 8GB of DDR3 1066, a GeForce GT 520M, a 320, 500, or 640GB HDD, and, disappointingly, a 15.6" 1366x768 glossy display. A 6-cell battery comes standard, with an 8-cell option available. MSI claims the laptop can last up to 8 hours on the upgraded battery. At the lower end of the food chain is the CR640. The only real difference between this and the CX640 is that the CR640 is limited to Intel's HD graphics instead of a discrete GPU.
