Western Digital has been on a high-activity streak lately. Earlier this month WD acquired Hitachi GST, a huge change in the market structure that is sure to put competitor Seagate on its heels. In addition, they have continued to replace their older Caviar Blacks, as their last gen Cavs had become very long in the tooth indeed. Now, WD has just released an enourmous 4-bay high-performance RAID 0, 1, or 5 external HDD enclosure. What is the maximum storage size for this enclosure?
At the lowest end is a 2TB version (that's right, lowest end), with the mid-range offering having 4TB of storage capacity, and thei highest-end model an incredible 6TB of capacity. Additionally, the enclosure supports an eSATA, USB 2.0, or FireWire 800 interface. WD claims that this drive is ready for either Mac or PC. "The My Book Studio Edition II drive now available with 6 TB of storage provides creative individuals with the expanded storage and bandwidth they need to effectively shoot, edit, and safely store their video productions without the need to compress their videos or reduce the overall quality of them for the sake of available space," said WD's Dave Pistilli.
MSRP for WD's new capacity champ is $550 for the 6TB version. See the product page here.
